I can’t believe it was over six months ago that we celebrated Sterling’s first birthday! I’m so excited to share that his party is featured in the current copy of Mingle magazine. I’ve loved reading Mingle for years as my source of inspiration for parties, decorating and daily celebrating. What was even more special was the opportunity to write the article and tell the story that accompanied the photos.
I thought I would share a little more about the planning process and few more photos of his party. I’m not sure what gave me the idea for race cars in the first place, although he has loved anything with wheels from a very early age. It may have been the race car shirt from Rachel Riley I found one evening while I was deep in a Pinterest baby clothing search. I loved the vintage roadsters and the muted color palette! From here everything started to just fall into place.
Since most racecar themed items are bright red, black and white, I ended up either crafting things together or using non-racing elements and tying them into the overall theme.
(This included the 50 some tiny wood race cars I decided to scatter throughout the house. I meticulously painted a few each night for what felt like months!)
Some of my favorite elements were the vintage loving cups and the trophy sippy cups for the kids. There’s just something so classic about their shape.
While not racing related, I also loved the photo board we put together displaying each of Sterling’s monthly chapters and an extra photo from each month through the year.
For our guests, we kept the food simple by ordering from our favorite barbeque place and hosting a buffet out on our patio. The big birthday was from Jenny Cookies and my amazing sister in law made his smash cake (with less sugar than regular cake! YAY for a sneaky mom win!).
We also gave away some beautiful sugar cookies designed to match the racing theme from the very talented Morgan G Cookies.
The Mingle magazine is on stands through March! There are a ton of additional ideas for gatherings including a great Galentine’s party, baby shower themes and more birthday parties!
A special thank you to everyone who helped make this day possible! Our families who traveled up to share this celebration with us and helped with all the decorations!
